under Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits
A financial aid program under the Social Security Administration, the Social Disability Insurance Benefits was created to give people with disabilities a source of income despite their physical or mental limitations that make working impossible. The disability benefits of the said program aids a person with disability until his or her condition improves. The program also guarantees income to people with incurable conditions.
The disability benefits can only apply to people who are deemed disabled and incapable of doing income-generating activities. A person is pronounced as disabled and eligible for social disability application if:
• he or she has a physical or mental condition that prevents him/her from engaging in any “substantial gainful activity” (”SGA”);
• the condition is projected to last at least 12 months or end in death;
• they are under the age of 65, and;
• generally, he or she must have worked five out of the last 10 years as of the determined date of the onset of disability.
An adult child may also be eligible for social insurance disability application if he or she has acquired the disability before the age of 22. At the time of application for disability benefits, most questions to the applicant are focused on the person’s disability and medical condition.
